Leather Care Guide
Leather golf goods are built to be used. A Brickley scorecard holder or yardage book cover should pick up character over time, but basic care will keep the leather from drying out, getting stiff, or aging worse than it needs to.
This guide applies to Brickley leather scorecard holders and yardage book covers, including the pieces that carry your scorecard, pencil, course notes, pin sheet, cash, and rules sheet.
Condition It When the Leather Feels Dry
Brickley covers are conditioned during production, so you do not need to overthink this. If the leather starts to feel dry, stiff, or tired, a small amount of leather conditioner can help restore some flexibility and keep the cover aging the right way.
Use conditioner sparingly. A little goes a long way. Apply a small amount with a soft cloth, work it in evenly, and let the leather absorb it before adding more. Over-conditioning can make leather feel heavy or greasy, which is not the goal.
We recommend Smith’s Leather Balm for general conditioning.
Dry It Slowly
If your scorecard holder or yardage book cover gets wet during a round, let it dry naturally at room temperature. Wipe off any standing water, open the cover, and give it time.
Do not use direct heat, a hair dryer, a heater vent, or full sun to speed things up. Fast drying can make leather stiff, brittle, or uneven. Slow is better.
Clean It Gently
For normal dirt or surface dust, start with a dry soft cloth or microfiber cloth. That is usually enough.
If the leather needs more than a wipe-down, use a small amount of leather cleaner on a damp cloth and work gently. Do not soak the leather. Do not scrub it like a pair of muddy spikes. Clean the surface, let it dry naturally, and condition only if the leather feels like it needs it.
For heavier cleaning, Fiebing’s Saddle Soap can be used in moderation.
Let the Patina Happen
Full-grain leather changes with use. That is part of the point. Your cover will pick up marks from hands, weather, range sessions, travel, and rounds played. Some of that character is exactly what makes a leather scorecard holder or yardage book cover better over time.
The goal is not to keep it looking untouched. The goal is to keep the leather healthy so it breaks in well and stays useful round after round.
